It was one of the hottest nights of the year in more ways than one.  A record crowd of over 300 area residents joined local and state officials for the Valley Village celebration of the 2012 National Night Out (NNO). 

Sponsored by Neighborhood Council Valley Village, the annual NNO event is part of a nationwide campaign that involved 15,000 communities across all 50 states and Canada.  The program encourages communities to support their local police and fire officials, get to know their neighbors, and send a message to criminals that our community is organized to fight back against crime.  

This year our Valley Village event coincided with a rededication ceremony for Valley Village Park.   The Park was renovated over the last year through support of Neighborhood Council Valley Village, the City of Los Angeles Department Parks and Recreation, and the office of Councilman Paul Krekorian.  Mr. Krekorian was joined by State Assemblyman Mike Feuer and representatives of US Congressman Howard Berman to present proclamations to NCVV and to the Valley Village Homeowners Association.  A group of 50 officially “cut the ribbon” to commemorate the rededication of Valley Village Park for the enjoyment of the community.  

“This was a very special evening” said event Chair Suzanne Lewis.  “The park is a true treasure of Valley Village and our community’s spirit ensures it will remain so for future generations.”  The evening ended with the traditional take back the night walk through Valley Village, led by LAPD and NCVV Vice President Ginny Hatfield.
