LAPD Officer Felipe Benavidez, Senior Lead for the Valley Traffic office, joined NCVV’s February Board meeting to discuss speeding, racing, and law enforcement across the San Fernando Valley.  With reduction in COVID cases leading to more people driving and traffic returning to normal, Valley Village residents have reported a sharp increase in speeding, running traffic signs and signals, and some racing along Riverside and Chandler.

Officer Benavidez shared statistics that demonstrated recent increases in accidents and traffic fatalities.  He mentioned that there are a significant number of vacancies on his staff, and that they are responsible for traffic enforcement over the San Fernando Valley.  While their resources are stretched, his officers are working with the community to target specific areas that have greater need.  Officer Benavidez asked anyone who knows an area of speeding or disregarding traffic signs and signals email the location to his office, vtdset@lapd.online, and they will survey the location.

At the March meeting of NCVV’s City Services Committee, Chairwoman Suzanne Lewis will review a list of Valley Village “hotspots” to send to Valley Traffic for future enforcement.  That meeting is scheduled for March 8.  Visit myvalleyvillage.com for zoom info to join that meeting.
