Youth Mental Health

As a part of a recent strategy the Department of Public Health has adopted to increase opportunities for healing and social connection, our office is planning a series of Youth Mental Summits throughout LA County. The summits are part of our initiative to provide more learning opportunities for young people to become mental health advocates. Youth attendees will learn to recognize common mental health challenges; identify and develop strategies to create a supportive network in their homes, schools, and communities; and participate in a community resource and activity fair with local mental health partners. Additionally, youth will partake in mindfulness practices, hear from county leaders, and leave with tangible mental health guides, workbooks, and tools. Sessions will be facilitated by staff from DMH, DPH, Teenline (a program of Didi Hirsch), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and more. Youth attendees will also each receive 5 community service hours, a certificate of completion signed by DPH Leadership, and a $25 gift card.

I am excited to share that we will be holding our summit for Supervisorial District 3 youth at El Cariso Regional Community Park on Saturday April 27.
