Los Angeles Unified School District Board member Scott Schmerelson spoke at the March 2018 meeting of Neighborhood Council Valley Village, and along with his staff gave the large crowd an update on school construction and the controversial effort to co-locate a Charter School on the Campus of North Hollywood High.
Construction at Colfax Elementary School is underway and on schedule. When completed in three years there will be significant improvements to the campus, including expanded classrooms and improvements to other administrative and shared student space. Plans for a five year project at North Hollywood High School were also discussed, and work should begin on the much needed project later this year.
Mr. Schmerleson also advised the Board and those in attendance that the effort to co-locate a Charter School on the NoHo campus has ended. The Board of LAUSD has identified and alternative site that will be a better fit. NCVV’s Board was active in supporting the requests of students and parents to remove NoHo High from consideration.
