Last week a packed auditorium of Colfax Charter School parents, students and neighbors spent over three hours expressing concerns to school and LAUSD leadership and the project contractor about the recent start of campus renovation and construction. In the last week of August over 20 trees on campus were removed, and other structures were moved or demolished. The large amount of concern resulted in a quickly organized meeting that brought together stakeholders to discuss project details.
Several members of NCVV’s Board participated in the meeting, and our Board sent a follow up letter asking that there be more transparency in the project and more meetings to keep the public up to date on the effort. The letter also asked for additional information on other items such as the plan to replace trees that are removed, the traffic study that determined the proposed drop-off/pick-up plan, the farm relocation, a parking plan for construction staff during work hours, and contact information for the construction team that neighbors can use on nights and weekends.
On September 19, 2018 LAUSD sent out the first of what we hope will be many information updates Colfax Charter Elementary School Plan Summary. Many of the questions raised at the meeting were answered in this flyer which are also shown below. There are some that still are pending. As more information comes to us we will share it with you.
