national-election-2016The 2016 general election is just three weeks away, and voting is beginning for many across the state who vote by mail.  Along with electing our President, one Senator, all 53 House members and many other state and local offices, citizens will be asked to express their opinion on a record number of ballot measures.  The 17 initiatives include issues such as the cost of prescription drugs, the death penalty, taxes, legalization of marijuana and even condom use.

To help all our stakeholders understand the propositions on the 2016 ballot, your NCVV Board is sending you a complete overview of all of the 17 measures.  The overview can be viewed at www.scpr.org/news/2016/10/03/65230/time-to-cram-california-s-17-ballot-measure-propos.    This summary includes an easy-to-understand review of each proposition, opinions both for and against each measure, and the financial impact of each proposed action.   It was developed by California Counts, a collaboration of Public Radio leaders including KPBS, KPCC and KQED.

Another great opportunity to learn more about this year’s Propositions is sponsored by The Valley Village Homeowners Association.   In cooperation with the League of Women Voters, VVHA is hosting a Town Hall meeting to discuss many of the proposal ballot measures.  The meeting will be held at Colfax Charter Elementary, Wednesday October 19, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Other resources to help you as you cast your ballot this year include local newspapers (LA Times, Daily News) and the Official Voter Information Guide that should be arriving by mail.

If you need help finding your polling place, visit www.lavote.net/locator or call the LA County Clerk at 800-815-2666.

Please don’t forget to vote and make your voice heard on November 8.
