At the August meeting of NCVV’s Board of Directors, a new Business Representative Board member and six new Student Board members were elected and sworn into office. After a close vote Ernie Merlan, owner of Muralism, a Valley Village based non-profit, was elected to fill the remainder of the Board term of one of two NCVV business seats. The seat will again be up for election in 2023.
Also at the August NCVV Board meeting a slate of candidates for the Student Board were presented by the Student Committee. One student, Melody Caplan, continues her Board service from 2021 as she will graduate in May 2023. The other six seats were filled by rising Juniors and Seniors from several different Valley schools. Student Board members may serve until they graduate, and must live in or attend a school in Valley Village. Each student was asked to submit a statement explaining why they wanted to join the Board and how they would work to make life better for their community. All six of the candidate fielded questions from those participating in the meeting, and the slate was elected unanimously to join the NCVV Student Board.
“I am so very proud of the outstanding merits of these young people, they bring to us a commitment to hard work, strong character, diverse opinions and love of Valley Village” said Student Board Chair Carol Convey. “We expect great things from these students.”
Joining current Board member Melody Caplan are Rock Edwards, Ashly Figueroa Ramos, Benny Goldenberg, Natale Ireland, Nathan Minton and Jacqueline Vazquez Olguin.
