The City of Los Angeles manages growth and development in neighborhoods through a collection of 35 Community Plans. These plans, which collectively make up the City’s General Plan, are legally required to be reviewed and updated every 10 years. Unfortunately many have not been revisited in over 30 years, including ours.
Development in Valley Village is governed by the North Hollywood – Valley Village Community Plan. As you heard in our last eblast, this month we begin a three-year review of Valley Village and North Hollywood that will update/set standards for what can be built, where and how it can be built, and other variables such as green space, height, density, transportation and more.
At the September meeting of NCVV’s Board the priorities for our revised community plan were approved. These priorities are designed to ensure our continued quality of life, protect the character of Valley Village, and plan for responsible growth over the next ten years and more.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! The first phase of the planning process is very important, as the City Planning Department looks to Valley Village and says “what is working, what isn’t working, and ideally what do you want for your neighborhood?” They will ask for this information in two ways: a survey to collect individual input, and a Town Hall meeting that will use guided group interaction to build consensus around goals. We hope you will be part of both.
First, complete the survey. It should take no more than five minutes. You’ll be asked for your thoughts on key areas that include residential and commercial development, green space, building design and overall character of Valley Village. CLICK HERE to take the survey. When you are finished please forward this to other family, neighbors and friends. We need hundreds of responses – help us show the City that Valley Village cares about our neighborhood.
Second, join us at the City Planning Department’s Community Plan Open House, Monday, October 15, 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at North Hollywood Library, North Hollywood Library, 5211 Tujunga Avenue. The City will facilitate input through interactive activities will help shape the vision of the next ten years and beyond. Bring your energy and your voice to the meeting and help us show the City Planners all the qualities that make Valley Village special.
Finally, we need you to stay involved. This is a three-year process and we can’t do this effectively without you. Stay in touch, watch for future eblasts, and feel free to join us at upcoming NCVV Community Plan Committee meetings.
Help us ensure that the Valley Village we leave our children is the great neighborhood we love today. Fill out the survey, join us on October 15, and stay involved! For more information or answers to questions please contact us at info@myvalleyvillage.com
