Neighborhood Council Valley Village is proud to announce that close to 40 of our NCVV stakeholders completed Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and are now a resource in their community to help their neighbors in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
CERT training is a program sponsored by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and the City of Los Angeles to prepare neighbors to be first responders in the event of an emergency. The 7 week training teaches basic disaster response skills, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. If a large-scale man-made or natural disaster occurs, emergency responders might be delayed by hours or even days. Neighbors will be the first line of support.
These NCVV graduates join over 300 other trained NCVV stakeholders who have been part of NCVV sponsored CERT classes since 2007. “We are very proud that these graduates will be resources of support for their neighbors” said NCVV Emergency Preparedness Chair Paulette Stokes. Tony Braswell, President of NCVV added “As a participant in the first NCVV CERT training in 2007 I am thrilled to know that we have so many people ready to help in Valley Village”.
Neighborhood Council Valley Village plans to host another training in the Fall of 2023 and we look forward to even more CERT trained stakeholders in Valley Village.
